Halla and Mando Together Creates a New Future On March 12, 2008, the inauguration ceremony for the Mando CEO Mr. Chung Mong-won and President Byeon Jeong-su took place at the grand auditorium inside the Pyeongtaek Business Division headquarters’ main building at 11 AM in the morning. Celebrated by the 250 plus individuals including external guests, heads of entire teams, newly-appointed executives, representatives of offices and groups, union leaders, previous heads of branch offices, presidents of seniority-based employee organizations, etc., the inauguration proceeded for about one hour, following the order of CEO inauguration address, inauguration letter presentation, President inauguration speech, guest introduction, etc. Shortly before the address, a video titled “Mando, Back into the Arms of Halla,” was played, tracing Halla Group’s decade-long legacy of trying to take back the management right over Mando since the Group’s 1997 bankruptcy, as well as the images of the late Honorary CEO Mr. Chung In-yeong of the Group. It was truly the moment of heartfelt emotions. The CEO Mr. Chung opened his address by thanking Mando employees and staff: “It was on January 21, 2008, after nearly three years of long negotiations, we claimed Mando as ours once again! And I can only thank all the employees and staff of Mando Corporation who, throughout the last ten years’ difficulties, showed their steadfast devotion to the company so that we could take back the firm.” Mr. Chung went on to confirm the Mando Vision, which includes growing into the world’s 50th largest firm within the next five years, manufacturing the world’s top-tier products, and supplying to some of the world’s premier luxury automakers. He also emphasized the need to transform the fundamental temperament of the firm by creating a trust and consideration-based corporate culture, advancing labor and management culture into one with no strikes, expanding R&D investments to an unprecedented degree, etc., to help implement transparent operation and ethical management. The CEO’s determination to transform the company into a truly successful company, a great company, and furthermore, a favored company by a wide spectrum of consumers reverberated as he urged the attendees to all join hands in having the dreams come true. Mr. Chung concluded his address by encouraging the Mando individuals: "I don’t believe Mando is a company only for its shareholders. It is a company for all of its employees and staff. It is a company for the Korean people. In other words, Mando is owned by all of us! I ensure you that I’ll be walking steps ahead of you and all you’ve got to do is put your trust in me and feel free to give your 100 percent to have your dreams come true. Everyone, dream it, believe it, and just do it!" The closer for his speech was the late Honorary CEO’s favorite and most-frequently quoted mantra. In the afternoon, following the inauguration ceremony, appointment letter presentation took place for newly-promoted executives at a meeting hall on the eighth floor. After that, the CEO, the President and other executives paid visits to the company factories, including the testing and evaluation research center, the ABS plant, the CBS plant, and the fleet testing yard. The tour around the facilities proceeded to a visit to the union office, where the top executives exchanged greetings with the union members including the union leader Mr. Gong Byeong-ok (director of the Mando metal workers’ division), confirming the friendship and cooperation between the labor and the management. The CEO Mr. Chung completed his schedule for the day by touring around Halla Climate Control Corporation and ended the official agenda by visiting, with his employees and staff, the tomb of the late Honorary CEO Mr. Chung In-yeong to show respect for the deceased.
